RCMG has a wonderful new opportunity, starting this fall, to play a role in bringing new life to a
somewhat neglected orchard.
About a decade ago, the Ramsey County Correctional Facility planted a small orchard with apple, pear, plum, and cherry trees outside its facility in St
Paul/Maplewood.
RCMG has been asked to help bring it back to life and help distribute its fruit in the community. We will be taking on active management of the trees, working to grow and maintain the orchard and, starting in the next few weeks, harvesting and distributing this year’s crop of pears and apples to local food shelves or other community organizations.
If you are interested in seeing what it is all about, join us on August 24 from 9-11 AM to harvest the earliest apples, get a look at the orchard, and show your interest! Many of the apples this year will be imperfect and not suitable for donation, so plan on taking some home with you if you come to help out.
Look for sign-up-genius links for additional harvest dates upcoming Saturday mornings, including a second harvest date currently scheduled for September 7.
If you have questions or want to help, please get in touch!
